Sophomore Michael Koscielski won the Flight C singles title and classmate Bryce Warnock reached the final in Flight B singles to lead the Dayton Flyers men's tennis team to a successful showing at the Valpo Invite this weekend. In addition, the Flyers also produced finalists in Flight A doubles.
Koscielski was a perfect 3-0 on the weekend in singles. In his finals match, he outlasted Tim O'Brien of UIC 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 to capture the title.
In Flight B, Warnock drew fellow Flyer Austin Wiegand in the semifinal. He defeated his freshman teammate 4-6, 7-6, 11-9 to advance to play UIC's Dave Robare. However, Robare topped Warnock 6-4, 6-2.
In doubles competition, senior David Peyton and junior Michael Rohana reached the final against UIC's Robare and Sebastien Lystad, but fell 8-5. Koscielski and freshman Lukasz Chowaniec captured third place in the Flight C doubles bracket after defeating Youngstown State's Steve D'Angelo and Brian Carey 9-8 (1).
Dayton will be back in action next weekend at the Ball State Invitational in Muncie, IN.
