FLYER PLAYER BLOG - KATIE DEVAULT

Sept. 8, 2008

Coming off of two second place finishes at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Indoor and Outdoor Championships, the Dayton Flyers are back and looking to capitalize on last season's success. Junior Katie DeVault describes the early morning workout and a team bonding experience.

Today, we had to wake up for 7:30 a.m. lifting.

We began our warm-up with running stairs and then finished maxing out for the week with squats. Later in the day the pole vaulters had practice together.

Since it is early in the year we are focusing a lot of our time on drills and technique. We did drills on the rings, high bar, and ran pole runs.

Later on that afternoon the team had a meeting to discuss the Flyer 5K that would take place the next morning for the cross country runners. We were assigned to small groups and are going to be stationed around the course to direct the runners.

That evening, the team got together for a spaghetti dinner at a house where three of the girls on the team live. Everyone brought a dish and pasta was provided. It was fun to be with the whole team and to meet all the freshman girls.
