Feb. 5, 2009
For the ninth consecutive year, the University of Dayton has the honor of hosting the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship Opening Round as well as the First and Second Rounds. Opening Round events are to take place on Tuesday, March 17, with the following events scheduled for Friday, March 20 and Sunday, March 22, respectively.
While the First and Second Rounds are already sold out, fans now have the opportunity to purchase Opening Round tickets, available at the UD Arena Ticket Office. For more information and to purchase tickets, call the UD Arena Ticket Office at (937) 229-4433.
After reconstructing the arena in 1969, the NCAA has viewed Dayton as one of the most attractive venues in the country - not only have the UD Arena facilities been recognized, but so have Dayton Flyer fans. It is no wonder, then, that after the 2009 NCAA men's basketball events, the University of Dayton will rank second (trailing Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, MO by only one game) in national history in total number of NCAA games hosted, tallying 82.
In 2000, when the NCAA expanded the tournament to 65 teams, the University was privileged to host the first-ever Opening Round Game, and it has been doing so ever since. This year marks the ninth time that the Road to the Final Four begins in Dayton.
