FRIDAY'S GAME A CLASH OF THE TITANS AS NO.1 DAYTON FACES NO.2 RHODE ISLAND

May 21, 2009

FRIDAY'S PITCHERS

Dayton: LHP Quinn Haselhorst, 8-3, 5.46 ERA, 1.70 WHIP
Rhode Island: LHP Nick Greenwood, 8-3, 3.74 ERA, 1.12 WHIP

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton Flyers will face the Rhode Island Rams at Noon ET on Friday at Fifth Third Field as they continue their quest for the 2009 Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship.

Dayton is coming off of a 9-5 win against No. 4 UMass on Thursday. Aaron Dunsmore was 4-for-5 in that game with two doubles and a triple. Rookie of the Year Cameron Hobson set a school record for strikeouts in a single-season, he is now up to 83 on the year.

The Rams will enter Friday after squeaking past No. 3 Xavier on Thursday. URI fended off a two-run surge by the Muskies in the top of the ninth.

"Coach Foster always does a great job and their pitchers are really good," said head coach Tony Vittorio. "They have a lot of history in this tournament and we look forward to tomorrow's game with them."

Another left-handed pitching duel is slated for tomorrow. Senior pitcher Quinn Haselhorst will make a school-record 50th start in Friday's game against Rhody. He is currently slated to start against LHP Nick Greenwood.

"Nick Greenwood does a good job on the mound for the Rams," said Vittorio. "You never really know what our hitters are capable of though. Marshall MacDonald and Aaron Dunsmore both produced for us today against UMass even though they didn't put up the same kinds of numbers during the regular season."

Rhode Island is led by A-10 Player of the Year Dan Rhault. Entering the tournament, Rhault was hitting .393 but in Thursday's game against X, he hit .250 with one run and one RBI.

Dayton was swept in the season series, but the last time both left-handers faced each other on the hill the game went down to the wire as URI broke a 2-2 deadlock in the bottom of the eighth inning to win 4-2.

Tickets are on sale at the Dayton Dragons ticket office at Fifth Third Field. Admission for adults is $8 and $4 for kids and senior citizens.
