DAYTON, Ohio - Coming off of their third consecutive Atlantic 10 sweep, the University of Dayton Flyers host the La Salle Explorers in a three-game series at Time Warner Cable Stadium. Dayton recently clinched a berth in the Atlantic 10 Championships held at Fifth Third Field in downtown Dayton, May 20-23.
Redshirt senior catcher Scott Dunwoody, who was recently named to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List, is on a seven-game hitting streak. This is the second time this season that Dunwoody has been on a hitting streak, his last one last 12 games. He is hitting .524 through the last five games with a pair of doubles and a home run.
Second baseman Zach Jacob has also been a force to be reckoned with at the plate over the past five games. Jacob is hitting .500 with one home run and nine RBI. He has also notched 14 assists while protecting second base on defense. Jacob is hitting .362 this season with 10 doubles and 10 homers.
Freshman sensation Cameron Hobson is expected to start on the hill in the series-opener on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. ET. Hobson was dominant with seven strikeouts in eight innings pitched. Hobson did not allow a single earned run during his time on the mound for the Flyers. He leads the league during conference play with a 1.85 ERA and ranks second in punchouts for conference games with 45.
Southpaw Quinn Haselhorst will get the nod on Saturday. Haselhorst, capable of going the distance in any game started, will face a La Salle offense that is hitting .280 in conference games with a conference-leading six triples. Haselhorst collected his career-high seventh win of the season in a 13-10 win over Duquesne last Sunday.
Right-hander Zach Huff leads off the pitching for the La Salle Explorers. Huff carries a 4.32 ERA and has pitched 25.0 innings with a pair of starts. In addition, Huff has struck out 15 and walked 12 but has yet to face a decision for the Explorers.
Sunday will feature sophomore RHP Kevin Fuqua. Entering the weekend with a 4-3 record, Fuqua has struck out 41 and walked 29 while averaging 4.46 earned runs. Fuqua has pitched one complete game and will be making his 12th start of the season for La Salle. John Malloy leads La Salle with a .341 batting average in 42 games played this season. Malloy leads the team in both hits (62) and doubles (18) and has nine stolen bases against opponents. TJ Chism is hitting .331 with 10 doubles and 10 home runs.
