ASHLEY CATTRAN GARNERS USTFCCCA ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM HONORS

July 14, 2009

DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton track & field student-athlete Ashley Cattran was named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) Women's All-Academic Team for the 2008-09 season.

Cattran is among seven standouts from the Atlantic 10 Conference and 531 Division I student-athletes who earned the honor. To qualify for the All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have compiled at least a 3.25 GPA and meet the NCAA automatic, provisional or regional standard for their event(s).

Cattran had perhaps the best season of any Flyer in history this past season. The Flyer sophomore boasts a 3.98 as a pre-med major. She is the first Flyer runner to qualify and compete in the NCAA Indoor Championship and U.S. National Championship in the 800 meter.

During the indoor season, she earned gold at the A-10 Championships and set a new school record in the event. Cattran was also a member of the 4x400 relay team to break school record by four seconds earlier in the season (3:48.20).

She continued her success in the outdoor portion of the season breaking UD's 1500 meter record twice and the 800 meter record once. She placed fourth in the 1500 meter at the A-10 Championships and anchored the 4x800 relay team that placed second and recorded a new program record. She also qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regional in the 800 meter, but was unable to compete.

The Atlantic 10 First Team Selection also garnered ESPN The Magazine District IV Academic All-District Second Team and A-10 All-Academic honors this season.
