DAYTON MEN'S TENNIS DROPS IUPUI 4-2 IN ROAD WIN

INDIANAPOLIS, IN. – Despite struggling on the doubles’ court, the University of Dayton men’s tennis team defeated IUPUI, 4-2, Friday evening.
Improving the squad’s spring record to 4-11, this win is the first on the road for the Flyers since January 23rd.
UD was successful at the No. 1, 2, 4 and 6 singles spots. Team captain Matt Sherman came out on top after a grueling match against Deon Shaffer at No. 1, earning his second win of the year at the position (6-3, 7-6, (8-6)). Joe West also picked up his second win after being promoted to the No. 2 position with a 6-1, 6-3 edge over Bren Vasalakis.
Robbie McCallum’s 6-3, 6-3 finish at No. 3, in addition to sophomore Austin Wiegand’s 7-6, 6-2 victory sealed the deal for Dayton.
The Flyers’ only doubles win came from Wiegand and freshman Robert Salcedo at No. 3. The duo finished 8-4 over IUPUI’s Tunis/Modesitt. Wiegand now holds a 10-5 record on the doubles court, while partner Salcedo is 11-7 so far this spring. They are the only members of the UD squad with double digit victories in doubles play.
