TRACK & FIELD FINISHES 2ND AT BOWLING GREEN CHALLENGE

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The University of Dayton track and field team finished second at the Bowling Green Challenge on Saturday with four individual champions in the first team-scored meet of the indoor season. 

UD’s top finishers include Jada Henderson in the 200-meter dash, Maureen Bulgrin in the 3,000-meter Run, Mallory Barnes in the weight throw, and Courtney Siebenaller in the pole vault.

Barnes finished first in the weight throw for the second consecutive outing with a distance of 66-01.50. UD’s Kerry Allen finished a close second in the event with a 64-02.50 throw – the pair’s throws went more than 10 feet longer than the third-place competitor. 

Bulgrin clocked in at 9:48.70 in the 5,000-meter race, edging out second-place runner Samantha Tomerlin of Western Michigan by one second. The Flyers reported two more runners in the 5,000-meter top 10 including Elissa Mason (10:15.77) in sixth and Lindsey Cummings (10:30.01) in eighth.

Henderson earned first place in the 200-meter dash with a 25.69 time. Siebenaller was one of three Flyers in the pole vault top five with a height of 12-05.50.

On top of UD’s four first-place finishers, the Flyers also boasted five other student-athletes earning second place in their respective events.

The Flyers finished with 148 team points and were edged by Western Michigan, which finished with 168 points. Last season the Flyers finished second at the Bowling Green Challenge.

Dayton is back in action next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 21-22 at the All-Ohio Championship in Kent, Ohio.
