DAYTON, Ohio – University of Dayton Head Track and Field Coach
Jason Francis has announced the 2011-12 indoor and outdoor track and field schedule.
Dayton will start the indoor season at the Oiler Opener in Findlay, Ohio Dec. 2 and 3. UD will also compete in the Doug Raymond Invitational, All-Ohio Championship, Indiana Relays, Notre Dame Meyo Invitational and the Akron Invitational before defending their indoor crown at the 2012 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships in Kingston, R.I. Feb. 17 and 18.
The Alex Wilson, a last-chance qualifier for the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships, will take place March 2 and 3 in South Bend, Ind. The NCAA Indoor Championships will be held in Boise, Idaho this season on March 9 and 10.
UD opens its outdoor slate at the Raleigh Relays March 23 and 24 in Raleigh, N.C. The Flyers will have two in-state meets, the Oliver Nikoloff (Cincinnati, March 30-31) and the All-Ohio Championships (TBA, April 13-14). Dayton will also compete in the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn. the same weekend as the All-Ohio Championships.
The Flyers will have athletes in the Penn Relays and the Stan Lyons Invitational one week before the A-10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Amherst, Mass. May 5-6. UD will compete in the Cardinal Classic and Clemson Tiger Qualifier May 11-12, in hopes to build on last year’s school-record six participants in the NCAA East Preliminaries. The NCAA East Prelims will be held in Jacksonville, Fla. May 24-26.
The season will culminate at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa June 6-9.
Last season the Flyers earned their second consecutive Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship and placed second at the A-10 Outdoor Championships. Graduate Mallory Barnes was an Indoor All-American with a sixth place finish at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships. She was also part of a school-record six student-athletes that qualified for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary.
