FLYER TRACK TAKES ON YOUNGSTOWN STATE INVITATIONAL

The University of Dayton track program travels to Youngstown State University for the Youngstown State Invitational on Friday. The meet kicks off at 3:00 p.m. and is a non-team scoring meet.

There will be 18 teams in attendance. Along with Dayton will be Robert Morris, Wright State, VMI, Slippery Rock, Malone, Westminster, Washington and Jefferson, Pitt-Johnstown, Wheeling Jesuit, Ursuline (Ohio), Buffalo State, Cuyahoga CC, Seton Hill, Cedarville, Clarion and Atlantic 10 foe Duquesne.

“Last week we had a small travel group,” said head coach Jason Francis. “We had many great performances.”

Last weekend the Flyers competed at the Gladstein Invitational hosted by Indiana University. Dayton had several personal best performances including a new Atlantic 10 leading height of 3.90m in the pole vault for Hanna Krizmanic.

“This week we are once again traveling the entire team,” said Francis. “We are looking to build on the success we earned last week.”

Katrina Steinhauser ranks second in the conference in the pole vault with a height of 3.70m. In fact the Flyers own four of the top five competitors in the conference as Ashley DeMange and Sarah Gaskell have the fourth and fifth best heights of 3.55m and 3.50m respectively.

Dayton is also strong in the 800m run. Lizzie Gleason and Nicole Cargill rank second and third in the Atlantic 10 running 2:15.67 and 2:15.72 respectively. Both times came at the Bowling Green Opener earlier this season and separate the runners by only .05 seconds.

Gleason also ranks fourth in the conference in the one mile run with a time of 4:59.55. She trails the top spot by three seconds.

In the throws Dayton is led by Renee Otte who ranks third in the conference in the weight throw tossing 16.19m.

Katy Garcia ranks third in the conference heading into this weekend’s action in the pentathlon. She scored 3,204 at the Findlay Oiler
Opener.
