FLYERS SET FOR ALL OHIO CHAMPIONSHIPS

The University of Dayton track team heads to Athens, Ohio for the All-Ohio Championships hosted by Ohio University. The meet kicks off Friday at 2 p.m. with action resuming Saturday at 10 a.m.

“We will be looking to get back to championship level performances,” said head coach Jason Francis. “To do this some athletes will be competing this weekend while others will have a planned week off of competition to focus on training.”

Dayton last competed at the Miami Invitational. Dayton placed second with 125.50 points, ahead of Atlantic 10 opponents Butler and Xavier.

Dayton saw strong performances from many Flyers. Miranda Nelson was one of those strong performances. She placed third with a toss of 50.25m in the hammer throw. This set a new personal best and also places her fifth on the all-time UD outdoor list. It also positions her second in the Atlantic 10. She also placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 13.21m.

In the pole vault Katrina Steinhauser took second place with a height of 3.71m. This was her second straight week in the top two. Her 3.85m height earlier this year ranks first in the conference thus far.

Maddi Schmidt remained strong in the triple jump placing second with a jump of 11.55m.

Dayton also will rely on various other key performers. Maya Pedersen enters the meet ranked eighth in the Atlantic 10 in the 400m dash with a time of 56.29.

Ellie Grandi ranks first in the conference in the high jump with her 1.68m jump earlier this season. Rebecca Maj ranks fourth in the same event with a height of 1.65m.

Sarah Gaskell and Ashley DeMange rank third and fourth in the conference in the pole vault with heights of 3.45m and 3.41m respectively.
