DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball program and head coach Tony Vittorio have announced the addition of Zach Schira to the 2014 squad.
Schira joins the Flyers after spending the past two years at Pima Community College in Arizona. Last season with Pima, the sophomore catcher/first baseman recorded a .298 batting average, 11 doubles, and 24 RBI. He also chipped in 29 runs scored, 17 walks, seven hit by pitches, and a .392 on-base percentage.
Originally from Gilbert, Arizona, the 6'2" political science major played at Marcos De Niza High School.
Coach Vittorio talked about Schira's possible impact.
"We were in need of somebody who could hit in the middle of the order for us," said Vittorio. "Zach will not only provide that, but also has outstanding leadership qualities. He will be a great addition to our program."
Schira is the latest commitment to the Dayton squad this summer and joins an already stellar class of 2014.
