The University of Dayton men's basketball team will play a school-record 13 regular season games that will be seen on national television in 2013-14. This, along with the full Atlantic Conference schedule, was announced today by the University and the A-10.
"This is the first year of the A-10's new media contracts, and we're very excited about the exposure opportunities created for our men's basketball program," UD Vice-President and Director of Athletics Tim Wabler said. "The fact is that our television partners recognize that we are a valuable commodity. We not only bring our local market viewership like no one else in the country, we are gaining viewership nationally."
Dayton will play six games on the ESPN family of networks, five on CBS Sports Network and two on NBC Sports Network. In addition, the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals of the A-10 Men's Basketball Championship that will be played in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn will also be nationally televised. The championship game will be televised by CBS for the fifth consecutive year.
The A-10 will have a league-record 75 nationally-televised games in 2013-14, up from 56 just one season ago.
Dayton will open the A-10 season at home against defending conference champion Saint Louis on Saturday, Jan. 11. That game will be televised on ESPN2.
The Flyers will also appear on ESPN2 in the first round of the EA Sports Maui Invitational against Gonzaga on Monday, Nov. 25. UD's two other games in Maui will be on one of ESPN's networks. Dayton will also play on ESPNU twice during A-10 play – Saturday, Jan. 18 at Richmond, and Saturday, March 1 at home against UMass.
The CBS Sports Network will air five Flyer games – Wednesday, Jan. 22 vs. VCU; Saturday, Jan. 25 at Rhode Island; Wednesday, Feb. 19 vs. La Salle; Tuesday, Feb. 25 at St. Joe's; and Wednesday, Mar. 5 at Saint Louis.
NBC Sports will carry two games from UD Arena – the Iona game on Thursday, Dec. 19 and George Washington on Saturday, Feb. 1.
A complete Flyer television schedule will be announced at a later date, along with all game times.
All but one of UD's 16 conference games will be played on a Saturday or a Wednesday.
The Flyers, 17-14 in 2012-13, return starters at four positions and 11 letterwinners. Coach Archie Miller's squad will add Ohio State transfer Jordan Sibert along with a highly-touted recruiting class of Kyle Davis, Kendall Pollard and Dayshon "Scoochie" Smith for 2013-14.
