DAYTON, Ohio
– The University of Dayton women's track and field team will travel to Charleston, Ill. this weekend for the 2014 EIU Big Blue Classic on Friday and Saturday.

"The coaching staff is excited for this weekend and is confident everyone is ready to have a big weekend," said head coach Jason Francis. "We will be competing against a number of NCAA Indoor National competitors from various teams and events this weekend."

This marks the second event for the Flyers in the outdoor season after opening the campaign in North Carolina at the Raleigh Relays last weekend.

After one competition, Dayton has 18 Top 10 conference performances including current No. 1 marks by Katie Ollier (5000m), Nicole Cargill (3000m Steeplechase), Miranda Nelson (shot put), and the 4x800 Relay team.

Dayton has five meets to help prepare for the Atlantic 10 Championships on May 3 and 4 in Amherst, Mass. During the indoor season, the Flyers finished second overall in the conference. They will be looking to have a strong showing in Illinois against formidable competition. Other schools expected to be in attendance besides host Eastern Illinois are Grand Valley State, Greenville, Indiana State, Lipscomb, Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa, Western Michigan, and Southern Illinois.

Field events will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday with the hammer throw. Running events will start Friday at 6 p.m. with the 400m hurdles. Action will pick back up Saturday at 10 a.m. with the discus while running events begin at 11:30 a.m. with the 110m hurdles. All events are expected to finish by 6 p.m. Saturday.

The meet will take place at O'Brien Stadium on the campus of Eastern Illinois University.
