JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of Dayton women's track and field program will have three student-athletes competing in the first round of the NCAA National meet this weekend in Jacksonville, Fla.
Senior
Nicole Cargill will be competing in the 3000-meter steeple chase while junior
Ashley DeMange will be competing in the pole vault and junior
Aly Weeman in the hammer throw.
All three Flyers are coming off outstanding performances this season. Each student athlete has set personal records and broke into the Top 5 all-time at Dayton in their respective events.
Cargill is currently seeded 27
th in the steeple chase with a school record of 10:20.88, which she set on April 17 at the Mt. SAC Relays in California. The Wadsworth, Ohio native earned All-Conference honors this year after finishing 1
st at the Atlantic 10 Championships in the steeple chase while also taking fourth in the 1500m.
DeMange is seeded 39
th in the pole vault with a top mark of 3.98m. That is the second-best vault in school history and a personal best for the Yorkshire, Ohio native. DeMange hit 3.98m in the final event leading up to this meet, the Louisville Twilight, on May 16. She also has four Top 5 finishes this season as well.
Weeman is a 34-seed in the hammer throw with a mark of 56.51m. That distance is the second-best in Dayton history behind previous NCAA National Championship participant Mallory Barnes (2010, 2011). Weeman achieved that PR on April 19 at the Jesse Owens Classic at Ohio State. On top of that, the Wooster, Ohio native was the Atlantic 10 Champion in the hammer throw and took eighth in the discus.
Together, these three student-athletes will represent the University of Dayton this weekend against the best of the best in the opening round of the NCAA National meet.

Jason Francis discussed the event.
"We are excited for this weekend," stated Francis. "The three women have been having great workouts and have remained very focused. The women will be looking to place in the Top 12 in order to continue their season at the final round of the NCAA Championships in two weeks in Eugene, Oregon."
The hammer throw is scheduled to take place Thursday at 12 p.m. ET. The pole vault will begin at 12 p.m. on Friday with the 3000m steeple chase finishing up the weekend at 9:30 p.m. ET on Friday.
The NCAA East Preliminary Round will being Thursday, May 29 and end Saturday, May 31. Live results and meet information can be found at the links above.
