Full Release

AUSTIN, Texas
– The 2014 Capital One Track and Field/Cross Country Academic All-America teams were announced and University of Dayton senior Lizzie Gleason received second team accolades.

Gleason recorded a 3.99 GPA while majoring in biology and recently graduated this May. On the track, she reached the podium at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships by finishing second in the one mile. She also took fourth in the distance medley relay and the 4x800m relay. At the A-10 Outdoor Championships, Gleason had another fourth place finish in the 3000m steeple chase.

During the cross country season this past year, Gleason led the team to two first-place finishes, six Top 7 finishes, and even won the Friendship Invite.

Women's cross country and distance coach Sarah Haveman talked about Gleason's contributions to the programs.

"Lizzie left a tremendous mark on our program," stated Haveman. "This honor is very well deserved. She is a great example of what we strive for at UD, to have student-athletes being successful in all facets of life and going on to be tremendous leaders in their chosen fields of study. We are all very proud of her."

This is another of many academic achievements Gleason has had in her time at Dayton. The Dayton, Ohio native has been named Academic All-Conference seven times and Academic All-District three times.  She has been on the Dean's List and Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll numerous times as well.

Gleason is the only female track and field/cross country from the Atlantic 10 to be named to the Academic All-America teams.
