CARTERSVILLE, Ga. – The University of Dayton baseball team squared off against Morehead State University on Saturday night, but only got through four and a half innings before the contest was stopped due to inclement weather.
The first two innings went by with the defenses and starting pitchers keeping the opposing offenses in check.
Morehead State took the first lead of the game in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly, putting the Flyers in a 1-0 deficit.
Dayton got a run back in the top of the fourth when sophomore
Nick Gobert scored on a Morehead error.
In the fifth, the Eagles had another defensive miscue that allowed sophomore
Brad Burkhart to score, giving Dayton a 2-1 advantage.
Before Morehead batted in the bottom half of the frame, the game was halted.
Starting pitcher
Bradley Horn pitched the first four innings of the game, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out five.
The Flyers (0-3) will finish up the opening game of the series at 3 p.m. on Sunday before playing game two immediately after.
