Box Score CARTERSVILLE, Ga. – The University of Dayton baseball team opened up its series with Murray State University Friday with an 8-2 loss.
The home team in the match Murray State took the lead in the bottom of the first with a single run. The Racers went on to add another run in each of the third, fourth, and fifth frames, taking a 4-0 advantage.
Dayton looked to get some runs back in the sixth when the Flyers loaded the bases, but they were unable to drive the runners home.
A solo home run in the bottom of the sixth extended Murray State's lead to five runs before two more runs made it a seven-run ball game.
The Flyers broke up the no-hitter in the top of the eighth with a single by sophomore
Robbie Doring.
Dayton got on the board in the top of the ninth when junior
Cale Dineen ripped a two-run double to left-center, cutting into the deficit. It was the second hit of the game for the Flyers.
It proved to be too little, too late though as UD dropped an 8-2 decision to the Racers.
In the contest, the Flyers only had a pair of hits while giving up 10 to Murray State. Dineen provided the two RBIs with just one out left in the game. Seven defensive miscues allowed the Racers to take advantage of eight of their 17 base runners.

Noah Buettgen (L, 0-2) pitched well, but suffered from five defensive errors behind him as he struck out four and walked none through his 5 1/3 innings of work. Junior
Ben Polansky finished off the sixth frame without allowing further damage. Freshman
Danny Hentz and redshirt freshman
Jason Johnson were both effective out of the bullpen as well with shutout relief innings.
The Flyers (1-6) will continue their three-game set with Murray State on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET
