DAYTON – University of Dayton men's tennis player
Zach Berry is one of the top 10 returning players in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Ohio Valley Region. Berry was ranked 19th in the final rankings of 2015, and 10 of the region's top 20 have graduated.Â
Berry was 25-6 in singles in 2014-15, the most singles wins by a freshman in UD history and just one shy of Tom Murphy's single-season Flyer record. The Springboro, Oho native served early notice of his potential when he won the singles championship at the Ball State Invitational in his third collegiate event on September 28. And he finished strong, winning eight of his last nine decisions.
Berry was also named Dayton's MVP.
He is one of three players among the top returnees to attend a private school. Vanderbilt's Daniel Valent and Rhys Johnson are the other two. The remainder of the 10 are from Kentucky (two players), Memphis, East Tennessee State, Indiana (two) and Louisville.
The Flyers will open the 2015-16 season at the Greater Cincinnati Intercollegiate Tennis Invitational Sept. 18-19.
