DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's track and field program had one of the most successful years in program history in 2016.
Overall, the Flyers recorded 99 personal bests during the indoor season and another 82 during the outdoor campaign. Dayton had 13 new Top 5 all-time marks indoor and 13 more outdoors. The Flyers finished sixth at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships and fourth at the outdoor championships, to go with Top 3 team finishes at the All-Ohio Championships, Beynon Sports Catamount Classic, Buckeye Classic, and Tom Wright Classic.
New school records were set in the 60m hurdles indoor and 100m hurdles outdoor by
Jordan Hoffman and the heptathlon by
Sarah Sepanski. The 4x100m relay team consisting of Sepanski, Hoffman,
Paige Yaeger, and Jenea Adams also set a new Dayton best.
INDOOR HIGHLIGHTS
The indoor season started with a second-place team finish at the Buckeye Classic before a strong showing at the Kentucky Invite. Dayton then placed second at the Tom Wright Classic and ninth at the Thundering Herd Open. The Flyers prepared for the conference meet against loaded fields at the Akron Invitational and Hoosier Hills Classic.
At the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships, Dayton picked up six medals, two each from
Jenni Rossi and
Jordan Hoffman, and silvers by
Sonya Napariu and
Sarah Sepanski. Rossi received A-10 Field Performer of the Year honors after taking golds in the shot put and weight throw.

OUTDOOR HIGHLIGHTS
The outdoor season began with the Vanderbilt Black & Gold Classic against a talented field of student-athletes from around the country. Dayton then took fifth at the Oliver Nikoloff and back-to-back third-place finishes at the All-Ohio and Beynon Classic. The Flyers went on to place fourth at the Illinois Twilight and had a few athletes compete at the RedHawk Invite just before the A-10 meet.
At the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships, Dayton had a trio of A-10 titles with
Jenni Rossi winning the shot put, discus, and hammer while Taylor Vernot won the 5000m.

Leah Frischmann also picked up a silver in the pole vault.

HONORS
Jenni Rossi was named A-10 Field Performer of the Year, both indoor and outdoor this season, the first since Saint Louis' Brittney Cloudy in 2012. At the R.U.D.Y.S. Banquet, Rossi earned the Rising Star Award. She was also named A-10 Performer of the Week on March 29.
On top of earning all-conference honors, Frischmann was named Academic All-Conference as well while majoring in pre-medicine.
Taylor Vernot had a stellar season, earning A-10 Track Rookie of the Year honors, and being named A-10 Rookie of the Week on March 29.
Mickey Ludlow received the prestigious RUDY Award at the annual athletics banquet for her accomplishments on and off the track. That followed her Haier Achievement Honorable Mention.
Olivia Albers and
Paige Yaeger were the nominees for the Presidential Scholar-Athlete Award at the annual academics banquet.
Jordan Hoffman was named A-10 Performer of the Week on Jan. 19 for her school-record performance.
Dayton women's track also had 16 student-athletes named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for Fall 2015.
