He Will Work With The Sprints, Hurdles, Relays, Jumps, And Multi-Event Student-Athletes

DAYTON – University of Dayton director of track & field/cross country Jason Ordway has announced that Aaron Gordon has joined his staff as the assistant track & field coach in charge of the sprints, hurdles, relays, vertical/horizontal jumps, and multi-event student-athletes.

"We're thrilled to announce the addition of coach Aaron Gordon to our staff. He is a student of the sport that has had success at each of his previous positions. He brings with him a concrete plan to improve and develop our current student-athletes, as well as recruiting at a high level to improve our sprints, jumps, and multis group for years to come," said Ordway. "Coach Gordon is hungry and eager to assist us in any way he can with an energy and excitement for track and field that is immediately apparent. The student-athletes really connected with him and he shares the same vision Coach Gilhuly and I do for this program. We're happy to welcome Coach Gordon to the Flyer Family."

"I am excited to be a part of an extremely successful and organized athletic department," said Gordon. "I look forward to help growing the University of Dayton's missions and core values among the current and future student-athletes. I want to evaluate and grow the student-athletes that we currently have here and build upon the previous success to help bring home Atlantic 10 Championships and create lifelong learners."

Gordon joins the Flyers after two seasons as an assistant coach at Eastern New Mexico University. In his two seasons at ENMU, Gordon's student-athletes broke 60 school records. He coached 16 NCAA DII All-Americans, five NCAA DII automatic qualifiers, and 21 provisional qualifiers, as well as 23 USTFCCCA South Central All-Region selections, nine First Team LSC All-Conference performers, five LSC Champions, and seven LSC All-Academic Team Selections.

Prior to joining the Greyhounds, Gordon was an assistant coach at Bacone College for two seasons.  Under Gordon's direction, the team set 10 school records, earned four NAIA All-American accolades, three automatic qualifiers for the National Championships, and the highest team GPA in the athletic department.

Before that, he was an assistant coach at Augusta University. His student-athletes broke 33 school records, two Peach Belt Conference records, and Peach Belt Conference meet records. He had two NCAA Division II Provisional Qualifiers, the 2015 Peach Belt Conference Freshman Field Athlete of the Year, three Peach Belt Conference Champions, seven All-Peach Belt Conference Athletes, and six USTFCCCA Southeast All-Region honorees.

He was also a volunteer assistant at West Texas Wings Elite Pole Vault Club where he had two UIL State Qualifiers, eight UIL Regional Qualifiers, three area champions, and five district champions.

He competed at West Texas A&M University and was a part of the Buffalo track & field team from 2009-2013. He earned his bachelor of science in sports and exercise science from West Texas A&M in December of 2013. Gordon also holds USTFCCCA Specialist Certifications in strength and conditioning, combined events, vertical and horizontal jumps, and technical coaching. He is also a USATF Level 1 certified coach.

"I would like to thank Eastern New Mexico University head coach Jeff Kavalunas and former Eastern New Mexico University athletic director Dr. Greg Wagonner for giving me the opportunity to be successful and grow as a coach and mentor," said Gordon. "I would also like to thank all of my former student-athletes for all the hard work they put in over the last few years. It was an honor to see them grow.  And lastly, I want to thank head coach Jason Ordway for affording me this opportunity and taking a chance on me to help bring added success to the University of Dayton's track & field program."
