Newport News, Va. -- The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its weekly awards for men's tennis on Tuesday and senior
Jordan Benjamin and
Joe DeMarco were both honored by the conference. Benjamin was named as the A-10's Player of the Week, while DeMarco garnered Rookie of the Week honors.
Tuesday's recognition is
Jordan Benjamin's second Player of the Week award this season, having already been named as the recipient on Feb. 19. Benjamin defeated Justin Nogalski (SLU) and Nathan Perrone (SJU) at the top spot in the singles lineup by scores of 6-3, 6-0 and 3-6, 7-5, 7-6, respectively. The senior from Fairport, N.Y. is now riding a five-match win streak in singles and has an 8-2 record in dual match play. He also teamed up with
Spencer Richey in doubles play for a 6-3 win at No. 1 over Justin Nogalski and Kenji Yanaba of Saint Louis.
Joe DeMarco becomes the third player to earn an A-10 weekly honor this season, alongside Benjamin and
Langford Hills, who won Player of the Week on Jan. 30. DeMarco has provided an immediate impact to the Flyers lineup in 2019 with a record of 5-2 this spring in singles play. He came away victorious in his only completed singles match of the weekend with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Ignacio Tintore (SLU) at No. 5, and also won two doubles matches with partner
Lorenzo Rollhauser. Rollhauser and Demarco defeated their opponents at No.3 from Saint Louis and Saint Joseph's by scores of 6-0 and 6-4, respectively.
Benjamin, DeMarco, and the rest of the Flyers have three matches scheduled this weekend, beginning with Xavier at home on Saturday, Mar. 9 at 3 p.m. The Flyers will hit the road on Saturday, Mar. 10 for a match at Wright State at 10 a.m. before closing out the weekend with a home match against Wittenberg at 3:00 p.m.
