NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The University of Dayton men's tennis team swept the Atlantic 10's weekly awards, with junior
Connor Bruce earning the Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week honors, while freshman
Eric Perkowski won his second consecutive Rookie of the Week nod.
Â
These honors stem from UD's 7-0 victory over IUPUI this past Friday to extend the team's home winning streak to 16 straight matches.
Â
Bruce clinched both the doubles point as well as the match for the Flyers. He paired with senior
Will Harper to take No. 3 doubles 7-5 over Blessing Benibo and Nicholas Moody before following with a straight-set victory in singles. The junior defeated Alex Jochim in the top singles flight 6-3, 6-3 to give Dayton a fourth point to clinch the match victory.
Â
Perkowski has now been named Rookie of the Week in both sets of weekly awards. The freshman did not allow a point against IUPUI, winning 6-0, 6-0 against Emil Jankowski for his fourth straight singles victory.
Â
This marks the first time since 2019 that the Flyers swept both weekly awards. Jordan Benjamin and
Joe DeMarco each were honored on March 5, 2019 with Benjamin taking Player of the Week and DeMarco being named the top rookie.
Â
The Flyers will take on Youngstown State next at 7 p.m. on Friday at South Regency Tennis Center.
