NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference released its first outdoor track and field weekly awards for the spring season on Wednesday, and in her first competition as a Flyer,
Luisa Himmler was named the Rookie Performer of the Week.
Â
"Luisa joined us this past January and has bought into our training program early, which is a great indicator for things to come from this great athlete," commented throws coach
Kevin Gilhuly. "She had a great opening mark with a short approach, and to win her first collegiate meet is great momentum for us to compete this season. She definitely isn't done yet but she made her presence known in the A-10 now."
Â
The transfer from Fresno Pacific University made a big impact in her first outing at UD, winning the javelin toss outright. Her winning mark of 38.37m falls just outside of the UD all-time top five, with plenty of time to improve and impact the record books.
Â
The Flyers return to action this Thursday, as they travel to Raleigh, N.C. for the Raleigh Relays, hosted by NC State. Field events are scheduled to kick off at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, with the javelin final slated to be part of the first group of field events Thursday morning.
