NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – For the ninth straight year, the Atlantic 10 Conference will play an 18-game conference men's basketball schedule as the league announced the 2022-23 schedule pairings on Monday.
The University of Dayton men's basketball team plays Davidson, Saint Louis, VCU and league newcomer Loyola home-and-home, and will also host Duquesne, George Mason, La Salle, Richmond and Saint Joseph's. Dayton will visit Fordham,
George Washington, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and St. Bonaventure.
Davidson, Richmond and Loyola all played in the 2022 NCAA tournament – Davidson and Richmond representing the A-10, and Loyola as the Missouri Valley Conference champion.
Six of the seven Atlantic 10 teams to reach the postseason last season will play at the Arena this year. That number includes the Flyers, who advanced to the second round of the NIT.
The complete 2022-23 conference schedule with dates and times as well as national television information will be released later in the year.
The 2023 Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship is scheduled to be played March 8-12 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Dayton returns all five starters from a team that finished 24-11, and tied for second in the A-10 with a 14-4 record. Included in those 24 wins was a win over eventual national champion Kansas. Headlining the returnees is
DaRon Holmes II, who was the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, second team all-conference and on the A-10 All-Defensive team. Dayton returns 163 of a possible 175 starts, 90% of possible minutes played, 91% of the scoring and 92% of the rebounding from 2021-22.
