Track & Field Takes Detour To Tiffin On Saturday

Saturday’s One-Day Meet Will Be At Tiffin University

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's track and field team will travel to Tiffin, Ohio to compete in the Tiffin Invitational on Saturday. This event is taking the place of the originally-scheduled Jets Pizza Invitational in Saginaw, Michigan. The track and field events for this one-day meet will begin at 12:00 p.m.

The Flyers will compete in Tiffin for the first time since 2017. Six years ago, two athletes of their five-person squad set PRs and two finished in first place in an event. On Saturday, the Flyers will also be fielding a smaller squad of 14 athletes. Associate Head Coach Kevin Gilhuly shared with us his thoughts on what he is expecting from his team at the Tiffin Invitational.

"We are looking forward to building off the success we had at the Gladstein Invitational last weekend. We have an opportunity this weekend at Tiffin University to bring a smaller group with just the throwers, sprinters, and jumpers to allow the distance and mid-distance runners to continue to take the weekend off and recover after posting great times last weekend. Seeing the team breaking all-time records this early in the season is a great sign that there is a lot more to come, and I know our staff is looking forward to seeing this young group continue to compete at such a high level. We have been able to watch these athletes become closer to each other each week, and the intensity at practice is building. We have some big marks and times coming."

At the Gladstein Invitational on Friday and Saturday, the Flyers set 17 PRs including three top-five all-time marks by new and returning athletes. Sophomore Jayla Pruitt ignited the Flyers on Friday when she set the fifth all-time record at UD for triple jump with her 11.44m jump. Grace Homan followed suit when she threw the fifth-longest shot put throw in school history at 14.47m. Then, it was time for rookie Jadyn Haywood to shine when she ran a 24.90 second race in the 200m and set the third all-time mark for UD. This was also her first 200m run in her college career. Homan is the only record breaker from last weekend that is competing on Saturday, and she will bring her leadership and winning attitude along with her.
