GREENWOOD, Ind. – The University of Dayton track and field and men's cross country programs had nine student-athletes named by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) to the 2022-2023 Academic All-District Teams. These students were selected based on their athletic and academic accomplishments by CSC voting members. The nine Flyers who earned this recognition are listed below.
Casey Bogues
Bogues set an example for academic achievement while excelling in her athletic career simultaneously. Her school and career record 53.80m javelin throw at the Texas Relays was one of the highlights of her 2023 season. She also won the gold medal for the javelin throw at the A-10 Outdoor Championships with her 48.56m throw. She also qualified and competed in her second NCAA East Preliminary competition of her college career. Bogues won two A-10 Field Athlete of the Week and three CollegeAdvantage Student-Athlete of the Week awards. The University of Dayton also recognized Bogues for her athletic and academic achievements by giving her the Charles R. Kendall Award at the R.U.D.Y.S. awards ceremony. Casey was also named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic team on May 30.
Isaac Burkart
Burkart set the ninth-best 800m dash for outdoor track in UD history with his 2:01.60 time. He also holds the 20th-best 8k time in UD history with his time of 25:06. Burkart has the fourth-best 800m dash for indoor track in school history with his 2:00.69 time. He also holds the seventh-best mile time for indoor track and field in school history with his time of 4:22.18. For the 2021-2022 school year, he was also named to the Atlantic-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Zoe Chappelle
Chappelle started her season with two first-place finishes in the 3000m steeplechase at her first two meets. At Eastern Illinois University, she took first place with her 11:30.10 finish. At the University of Cincinnati, she earned first place with her time of 11:17.54. Chappelle has been involved in Dayton's SAAC for two years as well. Her 11:01.13 finish at the University of Tennessee stands as the eighth-best time in the A-10 for the 3000m steeplechase.
Bryce Conley
Conley holds several top-five school records along with his recognition to the 2021-2022 Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll. He has the fifth-best 8k time in UD history with his 24:20 time. Conley also holds the fourth-best 5000m time for outdoor track in school history with his time of 14:29.33. Also for outdoor track, Conley has the fourth-best 10,000m time in UD history with his time of 30:21.34. For indoor track, he owns the fifth-best 3000m time in school history with his 8:26.96 time. Conley also has the 19th-best 10k time in UD history with his 31:53 time. This season, he also competed at the NCAA Division I Great Lakes Regional Championships for cross country.
Sam Duncan
Duncan set the 10th-best 8k time in UD history with his 24:37 finish. He also holds the ninth-best 5000m time for outdoor track in school history with his 14:44.30 time. Duncan set the sixth-fastest 10,000m time for outdoor track with his 30:33.11 finish. Also, he set the eighth-best 3000m time for indoor track in school history with his 8:30.50 finish. Duncan was named to the 2021-2022 Atlantic-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll on top of his athletic accomplishments. He also competed at the NCAA Division I Great Lakes Region Championships this fall, where he set the 10th-best 10k time in UD history for cross country with his 31:38 time.
Luisa Himmler
Himmler finished the season with the second-best javelin throw in the A-10 with her mark of 44.97m. This mark was set at Ohio State on April 22, and stands as the third-best javelin throw in University of Dayton history. Himmler also earned a silver medal at the A-10 Outdoor Championships with her 44.46m throw. Additionally, she placed in the top five in javelin in every competition she participated in this season. All of Himmler's javelin throws exceeded 40 meters.
Grace Homan
Homan won A-10 Field Athlete of the Week twice this season with outstanding performances in both shot put and the discus throw. Her first award came in the week following her 46.15m discus throw at Eastern Illinois University on March 24. This was a PR, and stood as the fourth-best discus throw in the A-10 at the end of the season. Homan also earned third place while setting a PR for shot put at the University of Tennessee with her 14.27m put. She finished the season in third place for shot put in the A-10 with her PR 14.39m put at Ohio State on April 22.
Andrew Schuster
Schuster earned the fourth-best 10,000m time in UD outdoor track history with his 30:13.92 time. Also for outdoor track, he set the seventh-best 5000m time in school history with a time of 14:42.79. He also holds the sixth-fastest 8k time in school history with his 24:25 time. Schuster set the fourth-best 5000m time for indoor track in UD history with his 14:48.08 time. In 2021-2022, he was also named to the Atlantic-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Emily Sreenan
Sreenan won the Rudy Award, which recognizes her as the epitome of what it means to be a Dayton Flyer. She was also the president of the SAAC at Dayton for the 2022-2023 school year. Sreenan finished in third place out of 44 competitors in the 1500m race with her 4:45.14 time at Eastern Illinois University on March 24. She also holds the 24th-best 5000m time in the A-10 this season after her 17:41.54 finish at the University of Cincinnati on March 31.
