Johnson Named To Outdoor Track And Field All-Rookie Team

Freshman Will Compete On Thursday At The NCAA Championships In High Jump

WASHINGTON, D.C. - University of Dayton freshman Kendall Johnson was selected on the All-Rookie Team by the Atlantic 10 Conference for the outdoor track and field season. The Tulsa, Oklahoma native finished second in the long jump at the A-10 Championships last month in Fairfax, Virginia. It's been an impressive outdoor campaign for Johnson, who won at both the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational in Cincinnati and the Jesse Owens Track and Field Classic in Columbus. Johnson owns the three best marks in the conference during the outdoor campaign at 6.32m (Cincinnati), 6.23m (Columbus) and 6.16m at the NCAA East Regional in Lexington, Kentucky.  Her jump in Cincinnati was a historic mark and shattered the long jump record at UD. The mark also served as the 18th best jump in the NCAA east region and the best jump for a freshman in the region.

It's been a sensational first year for Johnson, who In February, was named Most Outstanding Rookie by the league and won the long jump at the A-10 Indoor Championships. Aaron Gordon, Associate Head Coach, has been impressed by Johnson's first season at UD. " "Kendall has been able to accomplish quite a bit her freshman year, and is still working for more with the NCAA Championships this week. She has been nothing but a blessing to work with and coach. Her accomplishments both on and off the track and in the classroom are a testament to her faith and dedication to herself and her teammates.  I believe this is just the beginning for her and I can't wait to see what the future holds for her," said Gordon.

Johnson will compete in the long jump this Thursday, at 10:00 PM from the NCAA Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon .
