DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team returns to Atlantic 10 action at home this weekend, welcoming Richmond to the Gem City for a three-game series at Woerner Field.
Â
Friday's game has been moved to a 1 p.m. start, while the rest of the weekend will be an ongoing assessment to find the best option to play the entire series.
Â
Mother Nature Wins Out
- Saturday's weather forecast won't be the first Dayton game this week to be affected by rain, as UD and Wright State had to cancel their game on Tuesday night.
- Mother Nature wreaked havoc on the FlyBoys' annual Day Air Game for the second consecutive season, this year bringing thunderstorms, hale, and buckets of rain through Dayton's Water District right at game time.
- The Flyers and cross-town foes Wright State will not make up the game this season, but will hope to play at Day Air Ballpark in 2026.
Â
Offensive Eruption
- Dayton's win over Saint Joseph's was one for the record books, as the Flyers won 29-1 in the series opener. The +28 win difference is the largest margin of victory since at least 2004.
- The FlyBoys slugged five home runs in the contest, including a two-homer performance from
Adin Zorn (more on that below). Two of the home runs were grand slams, the second time in as many seasons Dayton has had a two-grand slam game.
- UD's pitching also allowed only one run, marking the fourth time this season the Flyers have allowed just one.
Â
Zorn's Historic Game
- Sophomore
Adin Zorn's performance in Dayton's series opener was historic for multiple reasons, starting with it being the first time in program history that a Flyer hit a three-run homer and grand slam in the same inning.
- Zorn drove in seven runs, tied for third-most in a single game in program history.
Â
Another Record Falls
- Freshman
Ty Mainolfi's six runs scored in Dayton's 29-1 win over Saint Joseph's is the most in a single game for the Flyers since at least 2004.
- Mainolfi finished the game 3-for-4 with a grand slam, walk, and hit by pitch. The Staten Island, N.Y. native also drove in five runs in the contest.
Â
Welcome Back DiMar!
- After missing a pair of games, sophomore
Michael DiMartini returned for the weekend series at Saint Joseph's and responded by hitting .400 (6-for-15) with a home run, a triple, seven RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base.
- DiMartini ranks first in the Atlantic 10 in triples (7) and hits per game (1.77), is second in average (.406), and hits (76), and third in stolen bases (28).
Â
Lock Down Pitching
- The FlyBoys had one of its best pitching performances as a team in their 29-1 win over Saint Joseph's, with senior starter
Chris Peguero leading the way. The Boston, Mass. native allowed just one run over five innings of work, striking out six and allowing just one walk.
-
Michael Fortes,
Jacob McGovern,
Landan Browning and
CJ Bussell each threw a scoreless inning and struck out at least one batter. Fortes, McGovern and Browning didn't allow a hit, while Bussell fanned a pair in his inning of work.
Â
Scouting Richmond
- Richmond has a record of 27-15 on the 2025 season with an Atlantic 10 record of 8-13. The Spiders have lost consecutive conference series against Saint Louis and George Washington coming into the weekend.
- The Spiders' offense ranks No. 2 in the Atlantic 10 and No. 10 nationally, with seven regulars turning in a batting average over .300. Brady O'Brien leads the team and ranks sixth in the A-10 with a .384 mark. O'Brien also has the most home runs in the conference with 16.
- Richmond's pitching staff has a 5.69 ERA on the season, good for second-best in the Atlantic 10. The Spiders strike out 7.47 batters per nine innings, and is holding opposing hitters to a .271 average.Â
Â
ON DECK
- The FlyBoys hit the road after Finals Week, traveling to New York to take on Fordham, May 9-11.
