WASHINGTON - Three members of the University of Dayton's men's soccer team were honored by the Atlantic 10 in the season's first round of weekly awards.
Ethan Sassine was named the Co-Offensive Player of the Week,
Gavin Krenecki garnered Defensive Player of the week accolades and
Mikkel Madsen secured the Rookie of the Week honor.
Saint Louis' Andrew Heckenlaible was also named Under Armour Co-Offensive Player of the Week. The awards were announced on Monday for games played from Aug. 18-24.
Sassine, a forward from Johns Creek, Ga., scored three points on the week for the Flyers, recording a goal and an assist in Dayton's 4-0 victory at No. 20 Western Michigan. He led the Flyer attack in Thursday's season opener against Detroit Mercy, firing off a match-high five shots in a 0-0 draw. He got off seven total shots on the week, with four coming on goal (.571).
Krenecki, a goalkeeper from Fair Oaks, Calif., tallied back-to-back shutouts to open the 2025 campaign for the Flyers. Earning his first career start in a Dayton uniform, Krenecki collected three saves against Detroit Mercy in a 0-0 draw. He kept the momentum going in Sunday's 4-0 win at No. 20 Western Michigan, posting a career-high five saves to earn his first victory in goal at UD.
Madsen, a defender from Kalundborg, Denmark, played the full 180 minutes of back-to-back shutouts for the Flyers during the opening week of the season. The freshman dished his first career assist and netted his first career goal, a laser to the upper left corner on a free kick late in the first half at Western Michigan on Sunday.

12th-ranked Dayton is set to take part in Ohio State's Wolstein Classic next week. Dayton will matchup against Temple on Thursday and Oakland on Sunday. Both matches are set to kickoff at 4 p.m. at OSU's Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
