WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has recognized University of Dayton freshman
Simone Bessong as Rookie of the Week and senior
Rebekah Conrad as Field Performer of the week for their strong performances at Capital and Michigan this past weekend.
Bessong earned her second A-10 Rookie of the Week honors this season for her impressive showing in the 200m at Michigan. In her first collegiate race at the distance, the Florence, Kentucky native finished atop the podium with a time of 24.36, which ranks her third in program history. Her time also stands as the fastest among Atlantic 10 athletes thus far this season.
Conrad left Capital on Friday with a win in the weight throw and a runner-up finish in the shot put under her belt. The senior from Butler, Ohio, set a PR in the weight throw of 18.55m to earn the victory. This mark ranks her first in the A-10 this season. In the shot put, she threw 12.82m, which ranks her second in the conference.
Conrad, Bessong, and the rest of the Flyers will be back on the track on Friday, January 16, and Saturday, January 17, when they travel to Indianapolis for the Hoosier Horsepower Classic at the Indianapolis State Fairgrounds.
