#UDTF Travels To Indianapolis For Hoosier Horsepower Classic

Distance Runners Will Make Their Season Debuts In First Full Team Competition Of The Year

DAYTON - University of Dayton track and field will head to Indianapolis this weekend for the Hoosier Horsepower Classic at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The meet marks the first time the Flyers will compete as a whole team this season. It is also the first of four competitions at the Fairgrounds this season that UD will take part in.
 
START TIME
  • Friday: Field events start at 12:15 p.m., and running events get started at 5 p.m.
  • Saturday: Field events will start at 9:45 a.m., and running events begin at 10:30 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, the Flyers sent their throwers to the Wilf Schiner Invitational at Capital University while the sprinters and jumpers competed at the Wolverine Invitational, hosted by the University of Michigan. At Capital, Rebekah Conrad earned A-10 Field Performer of the Week honors as she finished second in the shot put and won the weight throw with a personal best mark. In the weight throw competition, four Flyers placed in the top five.
 
In Michigan, the Flyers recorded nine top five finishes with three athletes setting top-five marks in school history. Senior Jadyn Haywood won the 60m dash, tying her PR of 7.45, the second fastest time in program history. Senior Raegan Ernst finished fourth in the 60m hurdles with a PR of 8.80 seconds which ranks third in school history. Freshman Simone Bessong won her first collegiate 200m race in a time of 24.36, the third best time in program history. Bessong was named as the A-10 Rookie of the Week for her performance.
 
FLYERS IN ACTION
The Flyers will be competing as a full time for the first time this season as the distance team will be making their indoor debut. On Friday, five Flyers, Olivia Kindbom, Bailey Gross, Anna Newkirk, Marissa Pritchett, and Bryn Hothem will compete in the 3,000m and on Saturday, Kaitlin Skelton, Ashley Alsko, Reese Kohnle, Sarah Haunn, and Cara Mooney will take the track in the mile and 800m.
 
Simone Bessong, Jadyn Haywood, and Raegan Ernst will all return to the events they set top program marks in last time out. Reigning A-10 Field Performer of the Week Rebekah Conrad will look to continue to improve her mark in the weight throw and shot put.
