GAME NOTES
DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton Flyers begin their quest to repeat as Atlantic 10 Champions as they travel to Philadelphia to face the La Salle Explorers in a three-game series this weekend.
Dayton is 9-11 and earned a 4-3 win over the Cincinnati Bearcats on Wednesday at Time Warner Cable Stadium. Joe Gayda swatted the game-winning RBI in that contest. He is hitting .333 with five doubles this season.
Cole Tyrell continues to lead the team with a .359 average and 11 doubles. The senior captain also has the second highest slugging percentage of any regular starter. Aaron Dunsmore has been on a hot streak as of late. He has seven home runs this season and has raised his batting average to a healthy .330.
La Salle enters the weekend with a 4-14 record. They split against the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore on Wednesday as the Hawks earned their first win of the season.
The Explorers are led by Brendan Norton who is hitting .410 with six doubles, three triples and 13 RBI. Jon Gyles has a team-leading 17 RBI.
Neither team has announced an official starter for Friday, but Dayton’s Burny Mitchem has been strong in his latest starts. Mitchem leads the team with 34 strikeouts and averages 6.8 strikeouts to walks.
