Series Preview
• Dayton travels to Indianapolis on Tuesday for a mid-week game at Butler. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
• Sophomore left-handed pitcher Tommy Konrad will make his first start as a Flyer on the mound in a declared pitching staff day. Konrad has a 5.87 ERA and five strikeouts through 7 2/3 innings pitched this season. Entering Tuesday, Konrad has a total of 19 career appearances on the mound.
• Last season Dayton shutout Butler at Time Warner Cable Stadium, 5-0. It was right-handed pitcher Tim Bury’s first win as a Flyer after striking out five in 5 2/3 innings. Konrad and Bobby Glover also contributed to the combined shutout on the mound.
• Dayton has won seven of the last eight games against the Bulldogs.

National Weather Service Forecast – Indianapolis, Ind.
Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 58 degrees. Breezy, with a south wind 10 to 13 mph increasing to between 19 and 22 mph. Winds could gust as high as 36 mph.

Last Time Out
• Dayton lost two of three games at Tennessee Tech last weekend and lost its 2012 home-opener to Bowling Green State on Tuesday.
• Senior pitcher Burny Mitchem was the winning pitcher in game two of a doubleheader on Saturday. Mitchem became Dayton’s career strikeout leader (269) after striking out a career-high 14 during six shutout relief innings which allowed UD to win an 11-inning game, 13-9. The Farmington, Mich., native passed former teammate Cameron Hobson’s (2009-11) 246 career strikeouts.
• Junior Jared Broughton led UD with a 500 (8-for-16) batting average with two doubles.

Scouting the Bulldogs
• Butler enters Tuesday’s game with a 3-7 record. Last weekend BU lost a three-game series at Belmont in Nashville. Tuesday’s game will be the Bulldogs’ home-opener. 
• First baseman Pat Gelwicks leads the team in hits (13) and batting average (.394), but just has two RBI through nine starts.
• Jimmy Risi has driven in 10 of Butler’s 42 runs on two homeruns and six hits.
• The Bulldogs were picked to finish fifth in the Horizon League by conference head coaches. The league features six baseball teams and a double round-robin scheduling format of three-game series.
• Last season BU was 23-28-1 and 11-14-1 during conference play, finishing fourth.

Who To Watch
• On a senior-laden team, freshman A.J. Ryan leads the Flyer offense in batting average (.423) after eight games played and five starts. Ryan was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week last week (2/27).
• Senior Bobby Glover is on a nine-game hitting streak with a hit in every game this season.
• Glover and C.J. Gillman co-lead the team in RBI, each with 11.

Indy Roots
• Dayton baseball has firm roots in Indianapolis, starting with Head Coach Tony Vittorio. Vittorio attend Southport High School.
• Redshirt freshman Ray Stallings (Roncalli HS), sophomore Mel Skochdopole (North Central HS), and junior Jared Broughton (Lutheran HS) all grew up in the greater Indianapolis area. UD has a total of six players from the Hoosier State.

Dayton Overview
• During the preseason, the Flyers were picked to finish third in the A-10.
• Last season UD went 32-27 and 15-9 in A-10 play, finishing third.
• UD returns five position players and three-of-four pitchers who started a conference game in 2011.
• Head Coach Tony Vittorio has a 344-333 record in his 13th season at Dayton.
• The Flyers won the 2009 A-10 regular season title and have had 30-win seasons in five of the last seven years.
