AUBURN, Ala. – The University of Dayton women's track and field team kicked-off the Auburn Tiger Track Classic Friday.
"We had a great start to the weekend," said Head Coach
Jason Francis. "I cannot wait to see what performances we get tomorrow."
The Flyers had an outstanding day in the hammer throw with all three performers finishing in the Top 12. Senior and reigning Atlantic 10 Co-Performer of the Week
Aly Weeman took first overall with a new personal record of 58.57m, which was good enough for second all-time in Dayton history and the top showing in the A-10 this year. It was also the 16th-best throw in the NCAA East Region. Teammate and freshman
Erin Reese wasn't far behind and finished fifth with a distance of 49.79m, a new career best and the second-best throw in the league in 2015. Senior
Miranda Nelson wrapped-up the event in 12
th-place with a mark of 47.67m, which puts her third currently in the A-10.
In the javelin throw, freshman
Sarah Sepanski finished 16
th overall.
Four more Flyers ran in the 5000m race as freshman
Emily Leonard led the way with a time of 17:47.16, earning fifth-place. Freshman
Nicole Steinbicker, sophomore
Kathleen Keene, and freshman
Kate Crawford finished consecutively in 10
th, 11
th, and 12
th.
The competition will finish up Saturday, with events starting at 11 a.m. The Tiger Track Classic is slated to wrap-up around 6 p.m. ET.
