The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its weekly baseball awards on Monday, and Dayton's
Brandon Smith was named Player of the Week.
Smith tore it up at the plate last week over three games, notching seven hits in 13 at-bats for a .538 batting average, including two home runs and driving in eight runners at the plate. He recorded multiple hits in each game and at least one RBI as he helped lead the Flyers to two victories at Woerner Field, an 11-9 victory over Eastern Michigan in the team's 2018 home opener and a 7-4 win over Hartford.
Smith leads Dayton in batting average with a mark of .349 this season and also is tops on the team in RBIs with 10. He is also one of the top pitchers for Dayton with three appearances (one start), 7.2 innings pitched, eight strikeouts and a save on the mound this season.
Smith and the Flyers will take on Miami (Ohio) tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Oxford, Ohio before facing Ball State in a four-game series this weekend. The Friday and Sunday games of the series will be on the road in Muncie, Ind., while Dayton will welcome the Cardinals to Woerner Field for a doubleheader on Saturday. The first game is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start on Saturday.
