Letter To Dayton Baseball Alumni, Friends and Fans
University of Dayton baseball head coach
Jayson King is reaching out to alumni, friends and fans of the program to come out to a game or series for the upcoming 2019 season.
The Flyers made significant strides in King's first season at the helm in 2018, posting the most wins for the program, both overall (21) and in conference play (10), since the 2014 season. Returning seniors SS
Pat Meehan and OF
Connor Echols along with a trio of 2018 Atlantic 10 All-Freshman Team honorees (OF
Michael Cleary, RHP
Aaron Ernst and OF
Mitchell Garrity) will team with an influx of a talented group of newcomers to build off the team's impressive finish to the 2018 season, which saw the Flyers win seven of their last nine games, including a series sweep of Davidson.
The 2019 season will feature the most challenging schedule Dayton Baseball has ever played. Six of the first nine games are against SEC competition, as the Flyers will travel to No. 9 Georgia to open the season from Feb. 15-17 before heading to Nashville, Tenn. for a three-game set with No. 1 Vanderbilt from Mar. 1-3. In total, The Flyers will take on seven opponents that made the NCAA Tournament and also have a series at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. from Feb. 22-24 against Seton Hall.
Off the field, Dayton Baseball has seen its facilities undergo a complete transformation in the past calendar year. Woerner Field at DP&L Stadium has a newly painted navy and red outfield fence, as well as flooring, padding and graphics added on to the dugouts. The Indoor Hitting Facility and team locker room have both also undergone facelifts, as both have been equipped with Bose sound systems and a pair of flat screen televisions. The locker room also features 40 custom-made lockers that were brand new for the 2018 season.Â
Dayton Baseball have also utilized top-of-the-line analytical equipment program called Rapsodo -- the same system used by several Major League teams and Power-5 Conference programs alike. A pair of mounted 55-inch televisions display results and progress for Flyer pitchers and hitters.
