Sass Has Been Elevated From Volunteer Assistant

DAYTON - University of Dayton head baseball coach Jayson King announced Wednesday, Feb. 15 that Pete Sass has been elevated to full-time assistant coach for the 2023 campaign. Sass joined the Flyers' staff in 2022 as the volunteer assistant.

"Pete has already had a big impact on our program as a volunteer," said King. "In his new role, he will be even more of an asset as we move forward. He is a rising young star in our game that we are excited to promote."

Sass joined Dayton after serving as a coach at various levels in South Florida. He was the head coach at Doctors Sharter School in Miami Shorts, Fla. for three years before moving up to the collegiate level. The Decatur, Ga. native then spent time working at NCAA Division II Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla. before joining staff at ASA Miami College where he was assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Silver Storm.

"I am very grateful for the opportunity that Coach King has given me to be here at Dayton," said Sass. "Being promoted to full-time is amazing for me. I hope I can help bring an A-10 championship to Dayton and be a part of creating some of the top recruiting classes in the country. I am excited to get the season rolling!"

Sass has also spent time working in the travel baseball world, serving as head coach for Beast Mode Prime 17u and 18u teams, as well as the Ohio Warhawks 18u team. He's also spent time on the evaluation side of the process, working showcases for Perfect Game Baseball, the world's largest and most comprehensive youth baseball scouting organization.

The FlyBoys kick off the 2023 season this weekend, Feb. 17-19, with a three-game road trip to Bowling Green, Ky. to take on Western Kentucky University.
