KEVIN HOYNG '07 – Football 2004-2007Â
Few players in any sport at the University of Dayton have combined winning with statistical excellence as well as Kevin Hoyng. Â A four-year starter and two-time captain, Hoyng quarterbacked Dayton to the 2007 Division I-AA Mid-Major National Championship and was named the MVP of the Gridiron Classic bowl game.
He is the Flyer career record holder in passing yardage (8,862 yards, 2,000 more than next closest player) and touchdowns thrown (59 TD, 11 more). Â Hoyng is also the UD career record holder in passing efficiency (158.1) and total offense (9,528), and is second in career completions (862).
As a senior, Hoyng was 251 of 384 passing (.654) for 3,317 yards (which are all Dayton single-season records) and his 31 TD's are now second. Â
He was the 2007 Pioneer Football League Offensive Player of the Year and two-time First Team All-PFL. Â
KEN KECK '71 – Administration 1971-2014Â
No individual in the history of the University of Dayton athletics department has had a greater day-to-day impact on more Flyer student-athletes than Ken Keck. Â Beginning in 1966 as a student manager with the football team until his retirement in 2014 as Assistant Athletics Director, Keck worked with every varsity sport at UD. Â He supported the efforts of Dayton student-athletes and coaches for nearly 50 years as Flyer athletics grew from having a handful of targeted sports to having broad-based success in competition and in the classroom.
Keck came to UD in the fall of 1966 and joined the football team as a student manager. Â He was the head manager as a junior and senior, and then was hired to become UD's first full-time Equipment Manager in May of 1970. Â In 1973, he added the duties of Assistant Business Manager and was promoted to Business Manager in 1976.
In 1989, Keck was named Assistant Athletics Director, a position that he held for the next 25 years. Â As Assistant AD, he handled all team transportation, managed all athletics department vehicles, supervised the Frericks Center equipment room, served as the Frericks Center Event Manager and for much of his tenure, was the primary sport administrator for all men's non-revenue sports.
The listing of his job titles and responsibilities falls way short of demonstrating his contributions to the individual wins and team championships the Flyers won during his time on the Hilltop.
While those wins and championships can be documented, Keck's contributions can't be measured.  His incredible people skills, positivity, selflessness and amazing work ethic created opportunities for the entire UD community– including all three student-athletes being honored this year -- to succeed and have an outstanding experience as a Flyer.Â
LUKE TRUBEE '06  – Baseball 2003-2006
Luke Trubee is the University of Dayton record holder in career pitching wins (30) and single-season wins (12). Â When he graduated in 2006, he was UD's leader in career strikeouts (218) and single-season K's (82). Â He is now fourth and ninth respectively.
A workhorse throughout his Flyer career, he is second in career complete games (18), fourth in career starts (44), and fifth in career innings pitched (315.0). Â He had a career record of 30 wins and 13 losses with 3.71 career earned run average. Â
Trubee was a two-time team captain, and was twice named Second Team All-Atlantic 10. Â In addition, he was also an Academic All-Atlantic 10 performer and a three-time member of the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Dayton won 36 games in Trubee's junior year and 33 in his senior year , which matches the most in back-to-back seasons in UD baseball history. Â Trubee was drafted by New York Yankees and played two seasons of minor league ball.
