Nick Wissman and freshman
David Mendez headline the 2024 Atlantic 10 postseason awards after being named Pitcher and Rookie of the Year, the league office announced on Wednesday. A total of six Flyers were recognized on All-Conference and All-Academic Teams.
Wissman is the first Flyer in program history to win the conference's Pitcher of the Year Award. He now sits at 11-1 on the campaign, one win off the all-time record for wins in a season, and has seven saves. Mendez has been the top freshman in the A-10 all season and becomes the second Flyer to ever win the award.
Wissman was also selected as the first team relief pitcher in addition to an All-Academic team member. The Dayton, Ohio native has a 2.83 ERA on the season, making 24 appearances and striking out 63 while holding opponents to a .249 average.
Joining Wissman as a first team honoree was junior outfielder
David Pedanou. The Worcester, Mass. native hit .352 and reached base at a .442 clip, leading the Atlantic 10 in stolen bases with 33. Pedanou also added a team-high 55 runs scored, 13 doubles, three triples and three homers. He is just the second Flyer to swipe 30 or more bases in a season.
Graduate student
Nolan Watson earned All-Conference second team honors at catcher, hitting .250 with nine home runs, 12 doubles, 40 runs scored and 34 RBI.
Sophomore
Eddie Yamin IV was also named All-Conference Second Team. The West Sand Lake, N.Y. native was one of the most feared hitters in the A-10 this season, hitting .335 with a 1.024 OPS, driving in a team-high 54 runs, scoring 53 runs, and hitting a team-high 13 home runs and 13 doubles.
In addition to the Rookie of the Year honor, Mendez was also tabbed All-Rookie team. He led the Atlantic 10's freshmen in average, on-base percentage, runs scored, RBI, triples and stolen bases.
Dayton is the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic 10 Tournament and takes on No. 2 seed VCU in the second round game on Wednesday, May 22 at 3 p.m.
