DALLAS – University of Dayton baseball senior
Nick Wissman continues to haul in postseason awards, as the Dayton native has been named Second Team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), the organization announced Wednesday afternoon.
Â
It marks the first time in program history that a Flyer has been named an All-American by the NCBWA and is just the second time a UD baseball player has earned an All-American honor (Brian Blasik, Third Team Louisville Slugger All-American, 2012).
Â
Wissman, who was announced as a First Team All-East Region honoree by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) yesterday, was the first Flyer to be named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year and was also selected as a first team relief pitcher and A-10 All-Academic team member.
Â
The Dayton native finished his final season as a Flyer with an 11-1 record, seven saves, a 2.92 ERA, and 64 strikeouts to just 11 walks.
Â
Wissman joins teammate
David Mendez with receiving accolades from the NCBWA this week, as Mendez was named First Team Freshman All-American by the organization yesterday.
Â
Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. For more information about the NCBWA, visit the association's official Web site,Â
