DALLAS – University of Dayton alumni and Gem City native
Nick Wissman was selected in the eighth round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Monday afternoon. The 2024 Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year was selected with the 240
th pick by the San Diego Padres.

The #FlyBoys' closer becomes the highest draft selection in the history of the Dayton baseball program and is the final selection of the Jayson King era, joining Riley Tirotta (Toronto Blue Jays, 2021), Mariano Ricciardi (Oakland Athletics, 2021) and
Mark Manfredi (Milwaukee Brewers, 2023).

Wissman, a six-foot-one right-handed sidearm reliever, finished his final season as a Flyer with an 11-1 record, seven saves, a 2.92 ERA, and 64 strikeouts to just 11 walks. In addition to the first Dayton baseball player to win A-10 Pitcher of the Year, he was also the first to be named to multiple All-American teams.

Wissman is the 12
th Dayton pitcher to hear his name called in the history of the program and is the second to call the Padres his organization, joining 13-year MLB veteran Craig Stammen, who pitched for San Diego from 2017-2022.
