Box Score
DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team got a big hit from senior Ryan Berry in the eighth inning to complete the rally and take a 12-9 win from Baldwin Wallace Wednesday.

The Flyers jumped out to an early lead on the Yellow Jackets with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Senior Robby Sunderman opened up the scoring by walking, stealing second and third, and reaching home on a balk. Senior Ryan Berry then followed up with an RBI single to center, making it a 2-0 contest.

BW evened the score up at 2-2 with two runs of their own in the third.

Dayton quickly answered though in the bottom of the third with runs on a BW error and an RBI groundout by Berry. The Flyers took a 4-2 lead over the visitors.

The Yellow Jackets closed the gap with a single run in the fourth, making it a 4-3 ball game.

The Flyers got the run back in the sixth with a RBI by Sunderman.

In the bottom of the seventh, Dayton extended its lead to five with a trio of runs. Senior Mark Podlas ripped a two-run single to right, scoring junior Alex Harris and freshman Brad Burkhart. Junior Zach Schira then scored on a fielder's choice by junior Greg Rhude, pushing the score to 8-3.

The Flyers had control of the game until the Yellow Jackets exploded for six runs in the top of the eighth, taking a 9-8 lead over Dayton.

The momentum was entirely in BW's favor, but the Flyers were not done yet. In the bottom of the eighth, Berry stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a bomb to deep left field, clearing the fence for a grand slam.

The four RBI by Berry in the eighth gave Dayton the 12-9 victory over the Yellow Jackets.

Senior Joe Wahl (S, 1) came in to pitch the ninth and picked up his first save after blanking the BW offense.

Reliever Nick Weybright (1-1) picked up the win after pitching the eighth inning. Freshman Nick Gobert had a strong outing in middle relief, tossing three innings before giving way to Weybright.

Dayton offensively amassed 13 hits, 10 RBI, and nine stolen bases. Berry's six-RBI were a career high while his home run was his third of the year. Sunderman also helped out with a 2-for-4 outing, two runs, an RBI, and three stolen bases. Podlas chipped in two RBI as well.

BW recorded 12 hits in the game, but left 11 runners stranded.

The Flyers (8-14) will now head back out on the road to take on Fordham in a three-game set this weekend.
