GENEVA, Ohio – The University of Dayton track and field team competed at the SPIRE NCAA Division I Classic Friday and Saturday, its last meet before the Atlantic 10 Championships Feb. 17-18.
Head Coach Jason Ordway's Quotes:
"We let the sprinters, jumpers, and multi athletes rest this week so we just traveled our throwers and distance crew. Our throwers had a really solid meet. We're getting a lot more consistent in our throws and nailing down technique heading down the final week before conference. Everything is starting to come together.
"The distance group had a very strong showing.
Taylor Vernot broke the school record in the mile. It was her very first time competing in that event all season. For her to come out and have such an impressive race, after not competing in that distance in so long, really gives her a lot of confidence heading into conference. Across the board, we had a lot of good performances in the 3k, mile, DMR, 800, and 1,000. We're working on leg speed and closing out efforts. They really stepped up and we are feeling confident going into the Atlantic 10 Championships."
