DAYTON – The University of Dayton track and field will be represented by redshirt sophomore
Casey Bogues at the Texas Relays this weekend. Bogues will be competing in the 'A' group of the women's javelin throw on Friday at 11:30 a.m.
Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas is the site where the 2023 NCAA Championships will be held on June 7-10. This will help to establish familiarity with the venue if Bogues can qualify for the NCAA Championships. However, Bogues is no stranger to the NCAA Championships or events of its significance.
In 2021, Bogues had her breakout season in javelin. She made her javelin throw debut in March 2021 after her rookie season was shortened by the pandemic in 2020. Her debut throw of 47.11m at the Blizzard Buster set the second-best javelin throw in University of Dayton history. Only a week later, she claimed the school record with her 49.20m throw. After more work and steady improvements of her record, Bogues went to the A-10 Outdoor Championships and set an all-time meet record throw of 51.28m. This qualified Bogues for the
2021 NCAA East Preliminary Round.
Bogues qualified for the 2021 NCAA Championships after finishing in ninth place out of 48 competitors at the NCAA East Preliminaries. At the
NCAA Championships in June 2021, Casey set her javelin throw personal record at 53.59m, which qualified her for the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials held in late June.
At the
Olympic Trials, Bogues sustained an ankle injury, which required her to get surgery and sidelined her for the 2022 season.
The 2023 outdoor season will look to be a return to form for Bogues. She started the season with first and second place finishes at the first two meets. The Texas Relays will be her first national stage in nearly two years, and she hopes to make the most of it.
"Regardless of the magnitude of the meet, whether it be Olympic trials or a local meet, I attack every competition with the same mentality. I'm honored to be able to go to Texas to represent my team and the Flyer community, and look forward to making them proud!" said Bogues.
