ADAM WESTERKAMP - Baseball - 1927-1930

Adam Westerkamp pitched from 1923-1931, four years at University of Dayton prep school and another four at the University.  Westerkamp was generally considered to be the best pitcher in the first 30 years of the sport at UD.  

Westerkamp had a span of 42 games which he was undefeated.  During that time he was listed in the famous newspaper feature, Ripley’s Believe it or Not, being called one of the finest college pitchers in the country.  Also, Art Routzong, a former UD sports writer called him the best pitcher in UD history.  

During his career, Westerkamp was both a starter and a reliever.  He saved several games as well as won many starts.  During his years the teams combines records were 70-19, with Westerkamp winning more than 60% of those games.  Also, Westerkamp only record three losses throughout his career.

Westerkamp graduated with a degree in civil engineering.  He then returned to Cincinnati where he got married and had 6 children.  Three of his children are also graduates of UD.  Westerkamp also has 16 grandchildren.
