LOUIS TSCHUDI - Administration - 1932-1946
Louis Tschudi participated in football, basketball, baseball, and boxing. While he was a junior student at UD, he coached the freshman football team. His senior year, he took the basketball coaching position off the hands of Harry Baujan. He was called, “Lou Tschudi, the boy basketball coach of the University of Dayton Flyers.” He lead the flyers to a 9-7 record and went undefeated, 4-0, in the Ohio Conference. This was the first time the flyers had a winning record since the 1927-1928 season. In all, Tschudi coached on the UD scene for more than 10 years and was a part of the UD campus from 1923 through the mid-1940’s, except for the war years. He had a 42% winning percentage.
Tschudi, resident of 27 Lawnstreet and UD basketball coach, is featured in an article in the Dayton Journal. He has several songs published by the Rhythm Writers Club including: Dream Girl of U of D, I'll Be Like Tarzan I Guess, School Day Travesty, and The Divorce Case. He collaborates with Jack Reeder. His is also known to perform with Michael Hauer's orchestra and has a proclivity for The Man on the Flying Trapeze.
After graduating, he stuck around to coach football and became the head scout. After leaving UD, Tschudi joined the Air Force and in 1966 retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel. He passed away from cancer in March 1975.
