LAURA SCHWEITZER - Cross Country - 1986-1990

Laura Schweitzer was born in Rising Sun, Indiana. Alongside her twin-sister, Laura went on to run for the University of Dayton starting in the year 1986. Laura excelled athletically and academically. She posted the top-time as a freshman at 18 minutes and 22 seconds.

Laura placed third in the 1986 North Star Conference meet. Laura improved on her third-place ranking the year before and went on to win the North Star Conference meet in 1987. The time she posted was 19th in the NCAA District Meet. This time was also the second fastest time ever recorded by a female runner in the state of Ohio. Laura managed to run the four fastest times in North Star Conference history at time of printing. She also occupied the #1 position all season long during the 1987 season. Laura was also chosen to be Women’s All-Time, All-League performer for the Horizon League in the 1988 and 1989 seasons for finishing in the top 10.

Laura’s athletic excellence caused her to be chosen by Sports Illustrated to be included in the “Faces in the Crowd” segment of their December 4th, 1989 edition. The excerpt said, “Schweitzer, a senior at the University of Dayton, won the Midwestern Collegiate Conference women’s cross country title for the third straight year. Her time of 17:03 for the 5,000 meters broke the conference record by 54 seconds.”
