ARLEN "BUCKY" BOCKHORN - Men's Basketball - 1955-1958
 

Arlen Dale Bockhorn was born on August 8th, 1933, in Campbell Hill, Illinois. He went to High School at Trico Consolidated in Campbell Hill, Illinois. He then went on to play for University of Dayton starting in the year 1955. He was a 6-4 and weighed about 200 pounds playing the Guard position for the UD Flyers. In three years he played on teams that were combined to 69-17. In 1955, the team won the University of Kentucky’s Invitational Tournament. He continued to play in three NIT’s. First year- He scored 310 points with 146 rebounds. He also won the Honorable Mention All-American Honors Award. Second year- He averaged 11.8 points per game and picked off 203 rebounds. The Flyers finished 19-9 along with trip to the NIT. 

Senior year- He became Co-captain, scored 313 points with 359 rebounds. He received the White-Allen Most Valuable Player Award. He was joined by his two brothers, Terry & Harold- The only trio of brothers on a major college team. After his graduation at UD, he played for the Cincinnati Royals in the NBA for seven seasons; 1958-1965. Although for six years he was the Royals starting Guard and one of the most All-around guards of the NBA, he career was cut short by a knee injury. He still resides in the Miami Valley with his wife, Peggy, and two sons David and Dan. He now has four grandchildren as well. He returned to UD in 1969 as a color analyst for the Flyer Men’s Basketball games. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1967. Also, in 1980 he was selected to the Diamond Anniversary Team, the Top 10 players in UD history.
