DAN SADLIER - Men's Basketball - 1966-1969
Dan Sadlier, born 3/18/1947 was a 6 foot 6, 201 pound forward for the University of Dayton basketball team. He averaged 18.2 points per game, 9.3 rebounds per game, and co-captained the team during the 1968-69 season. It was during this same season that he won the Alex Schoen Memorial Free Throw Trophy, led the team in points and rebounds, and to top it off, was elected most valuable player.
“Sadlier graduated from UD in 1970 with a degree in business management. In the fall of that year, he made a failed bid to join the Kentucky Colonels, part of the now-defunct American Basketball Association, but the contacts he made led to him trying out for an American basketball team based in Europe. A year later, he joined a French basketball team and played for them five years, meeting his wife, Susan, in the process. He returned to Dayton in 1976 and joined the banking industry.” (DDN)
Sadlier now lives in the Dayton area and is a member of UD's Board of Trustees. Sadlier, a 1970 graduate of the University of Dayton and star basketball player, was instrumental in bringing the Dayton Dragons to town, has served on the UD board of trustees since 1997 and has been active in a number of civic organizations including the Downtown Dayton Partnership and Inventing Flight 2003.
